Practice safe computing BEFORE you come to campus!

Keep your computer, Internet account, and Ethernet connection secure. We recommend taking the following steps to help keep your computer safe while using the University network. Visit the Safe Computing website to learn more.

  • Disable file and printer sharing (Windows only)
  • Set strong passwords for all your user accounts
  • Install all critical updates for your operating system
  • Install anti-virus software (this is required)
  • Turn on your computer's firewall
  • Install an anti-spyware program

Remove Bandwidth Intensive File-Sharing Programs

Due to many people using file-sharing programs such as, Napster, Morpheus, Kazaa, or Audiogalaxy Satellite, our network can get congested and everyone may experience a slowdown.

If you have installed one of these programs on your computer, you need to either remove the ability for others to download from your computer or (better yet) remove the whole program today. You can uninstall the program by following the instructions below.

Windows PCs:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Control Panel
  4. Select Add/Remove Programs
  5. Select Kazaa/Morpheus, Audiogalaxy, Hotline, etc.
  6. Click on the Add/Remove button
  7. Click on the OK button
